This Fall, all four of the second-year members of the Jui group presented on their progress over the past year and received PhD candidacy! Candidacy ("Second Year") season at Emory is (similar to most universities) a stressful time, but different than many other universities. Presentations happen early in a student's career--in the fall of a student's second year--about ten months after joining a lab. Instead of a "general knowledge" type of examination, students present on their research progress, showing decisions they've made, demonstrating their successes (or defending their failures), and making an argument for their potential as an independent researcher in front of an agreed upon panel of professors. Congratulations to David Vogt, Adam Aycock, Autumn Flynn, and Ally Boyington!
